The Flash Practice Inks Take 1 by AurynPub
The Flash Practice Inks Take 1
Inks by Michael Yakutis (me!) over pencils by Ken Lashley

I did this as inking practice as suggested by SeanE in the group InkersChallenge - the group I recently joined.

Feedback on this piece is encouraged. I'm trying to get better at inking so constructive criticism is very welcome :)

Had a lot of fun with this one! Ken does really nice pencils and made this challenge very enjoyable. There are few things I had problems with:

1: I feel like the piece is lacking personality. This is partly due to my concern about #2....

2: I am unsure of how far I can deviate from the pencils. I don't want to step on the penciler's toes or disrespect the work by implementing too much of "what I would do." This is most apparent in #3...

3: I'm not too happy with how the foliage turned out in the background, especially the last panel. The way Ken penciled a lot of the leaves was simple hatching, but that didn't feel right so I tried to use more interesting brush strokes. They didn't quite turn out how I had hoped but hopefully I will do better on the next page.

Anyways, thanks very much for sharing your pencils to us aspiring inkers, Ken! I look forward to inking more of your work.

Hi there! I'm a published, freelance comic book illustrator from Northern California. My work has been seen in comics, webcomics, children’s books, book covers, album art, film production art, storyboards, and much more. I pencil, ink, color (either digitally or with watercolor), and letter. I consider myself a strong collaborator and I pride myself on maintaining excellent communication with my clients. My favorite genre to work in is horror, but I'm open to most anything. You can view examples of my work in my portfolio here: www.michaelyakutis.portfoliobo….

If you're interested in my services, please send me an email at michaelyakutis(at)yahoo.com or send me a note and tell me a little about your project at which time I can give you a cost estimate. Please specify if you are looking for black and white art line art or colored art, roughly how many pages you need, and the estimated time-frame or monthly schedule involved for your project. I look forward to hearing from you!

Thank you!
Michael Yakutis

You should be way more popular. Your art is amazing, firstly I thought your pics were made digitally! Well done.

Haha, thanks so much! That means a lot.

I think I'm not more popular on DA because I don't really use it for social networking. I use it more as my portfolio until I can rebuild my official portfolio site.

I read the first few issues of And To Be Loved and found it to be quite excellent. The writing and art were both great and the humor was actually funny. Kudos.

Thanks! I'm always working on something or other. Currently putting together a pitch packet for a steampunk graphic novel, and I also illustrate an ongoing webcomic, And To Be Loved: [link].

Very cool, Good luck on your graphic novel pitch. Where are you submitting it to?
Ill check out your webcomic for sure! I've looked through your gallery, you're a really good artist. You can really tell you put time and devotion to your pieces.
I'm currently throwing around ideas for a creator owned comic I'm writing. If time allows and you would be interested I would definately be willing to hire you as artist . Is there a certain style of comic you prefer to work on?

Hey thanks! Yeah, I'm always looking for future opportunities so when the times comes feel free to hit me up. My favorite genres to work in are sci-fi and horror, but I'm open to pretty much anything.

The graphic novel is going to be submitted first to Dark Horse and Image. If they pass, my writing partner and I may consider self publishing, but we have high hopes for the comic no matter where it ends up.
